|Location:||College Park, MD|
|Employment Type:||Full Time|
|Description:||Global Science &Technology, Inc. (GST), a fast growing high technology firm, is seeking a Scientific Analyst II/Support Scientist II for product development and validation at NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch program. Position is located in a NOAA facility at College Park, Maryland.|
The Coral Reef Watch (CRW) is a NOAA program, residing within the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), that utilizes remote sensing, modeled, and in situ data for near-real-time and long-term monitoring, modeling, and reporting of physical environmental conditions influencing coral reef ecosystems. The Scientific Analyst II/Support Scientist II will develop coral reef environmental monitoring products and develop software for the CRW Work Activity. These products and software are mainly based on satellite sea surface temperature (SST) measurements (from geostationary and polar orbiting environmental satellites). Any developed software will go into the CRW code repository, with many products transitioning to the CRW Decision Support System for coral reef management.
•Developing satellite Virtual Stations product for CRW’s 5-km near-real-time satellite- and model-based coral reef environmental monitoring product streams
•Developing a database of in situ observations, including water temperatures for calibration/validation of CRW’s sub-km to 5-km scale satellite-SST based monitoring products
•Implementation of high-resolution products in Google Earth and Google Map, including tiling
•Temporal and spatial statistical analyses of environmental variables used in CRW’s coral reef environment monitoring, including SST and coral bleaching thermal stress
•BS/MS degree in Oceanography, Computer Science, and/or other Physical Sciences and Engineering. Previous work experience is required with strong recommendation from previous employers. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
•Experience with one or more computer programming languages, such as IDL, Python, Matlab, FORTRAN, and C/C++.
•Good working knowledge of the Linux/Unix OS
•Training or experience with temporal and spatial statistical analyses
Experience Desired but not Necessary:
•Implementation of, or ability to quickly learn Google Earth and Google Maps product implementation.
•Databases like MySQL (or similar).
•Work experience related to science or engineering applications, or experience in oceanographic research.
Selected applicant will be subject to a company background investigation.
