|Description:||Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking an experienced Meteorologist to support a major NOAA program. The position is located in Fairmont, WV.|
The Meteorologist position is responsible for meteorological data analysis and support tasks as part of GST’s participation in National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s National Mesonet Program (NMP). The position involves the interpretation of meteorological data and metrics from GST’s Mobile Platform Environmental Data (MoPED) system, which processes mobile platform data for the NMP. The position responsibilities include a regular assessment of the quality of the mobile platform data, communicating results and outcomes, and documentation. Meteorological interpretation of the mobile platform data against control sources (i.e., ASOS, satellite, radar) is necessary. The Meteorologist will also support the broader meteorological objectives of the NMP program, which include metadata enhancements, data standards, and dissemination of fixed site and planetary boundary layer data to NOAA.
The Meteorologist will be responsible for conducting meteorological analysis for quality assessments of mobile platform meteorological data, and communicating outcomes and problems to the Quality Assurance Administrator for rectification with the providers.
The Meteorologist will also assist technical work for GST commercial products (i.e., DirectMet, MetLab) that are part of GST’s Innovation Lab (iLab) engineering.
•Analyze mobile platform meteorological data
•Provide interpretations and reports, as required, to the Quality Assurance Administrator
•Interface with the engineering staff to create and adjust software and visualization QA tools
•Provide meteorological data quality discussion and issues at tagup meetings
•Assist with meteorological issues tracking for mobile platforms with vendors
•Assist the Program Manager with iLab activities related to mobile platform data
•Assist the Program Manager with meteorological tasks in the NMP program support, as needed
•Assist the Program Manager with commercial product quality control and meteorological data interpretation, meteorological systems engineering, testing, and issues tracking
•Master of Science degree in Meteorology
•Minimum 5 years of work experience
•Previous experience with meteorological software systems and/or databases is required
•Strong communication skills are required, particularly for report writing
