High Performance Computing (HPC) Science Programmer

|Description:||An experienced HPC Science Programmer is needed to support a major NOAA contract located in College Park, MD.|
The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and programmers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term and the job will rely the candidates excellent programming skills (Fortran 2003/2008, C, IDL, Perl/Python, shell scripting) will be utilized to guide teams in writing efficient code that can take advantage of hardware (e.g., GPU, parallel file systems) available at STAR.
•B.S. degree (MS degree preferred) in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science
•8-10 years of experience programming in scientific/technical endeavors.
•An ability to understand scientific software and the ability to work with scientists and scientific programmers to implement software in a high performance computing /cluster environment
•Programming knowledge in FORTRAN (or other programming languages), MPI, Open MP, OpenACC
•Teamwork, strong inter-personal skills, good communication skills, strong analytical skills
•Experience parallel (cluster) file systems (lustre, gfs2, cfs, PVFS (OrangeFS) or parallel NFS) will be a plus
•Experience of batch job queuing system, e.g., qsub will be a plus
•Knowledge of GPU technology in a high performance computing environment.
•Knowledge of satellite & oceanographic data, systems, and analyses strongly beneficial (but not required)
•U.S. citizenship is highly desirable.
